Biorizon and Avans University of Applied Sciences join forces in aromatics research
Shared Research Center Biorizon co-initiator TNO is establishing a close collaboration with The Avans Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (CoE BBE) in Breda. The partnership is aimed at conducting research into increasing the yield of aromatic building blocks from biomass.

MOOC Biobased Economy Introduction starts in February
February 15th the Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (HZ / Avans) will offer once again the MOOC Biobased Economy Introduction. This eight-week online course provides an overview of the economy surrounding biotechnology. As a participant, you’ll learn about biorefineries, nutrients, biopolymers, bioenergy, and the cycle that takes products from biomass to world markets.

Green Chemistry Campus tenants move forward with bio-aromatics research
Biorizon partner Green Chemistry Campus, together with partners Chemelot Institute for Science & Technology (InSciTe) and Brightlands Chemelot Campus was granted a European and provincial contribution to organize, coordinate and scale up the research in the field of bio-aromatics in Southern Netherlands. Campus tenants Biorizon, Progression Industry and Nettenergy are involved in this project.

Lignin makes a take-off across the board
Ludo Diels, senior researcher sustainable chemistry at Biorizon partner and Green Chemistry Campus tenant VITO, the Flemish institute for research of sustainable technologies, is very positive about the future of lignin. This third major wood component (after cellulose and hemicellulose) used to be a waste product, useful at most for energy production; now, research institutes and companies develop many applications.
